Hostberg started from an operational problem, not a business plan slide. Running two real properties across Airbnb, Booking.com and a growing pile of spreadsheets meant double-booking risk, housekeeping status living in someone's head, and folios stitched together by hand at checkout.
The hotel PMS platforms on the market didn't fit — they were priced and built around room-type inventory and shift-based front desks that a 5-unit apartment building and a boutique villa simply don't have. So the founder built what was actually needed, kept it running against the real properties, and kept building from whatever operational gap showed up next.
